The Art of
Carrie Flanders (Carolanne
Hecox) was born in upstate New York to
Jim and June Hecox. Her parents
recognized her love of drawing and painting
at an early age and enrolled her at The
Munson-Williams-Proctor Museum and
School of Art in their hometown of Utica, New
York. The museum became such a fixture in
Carrie’s life that if she couldn’t be found in
the School of Art, she could be found
wondering the halls of the museum. The
museum offered Carrie the opportunity to be
instructed by many of New York’s finest
artists, including John Dyer, Gladys Stohrer,
and Edward Christiana.
