About the Artist

the beautiful Carrie Flanders

Born and raised in upstate New York, Carrie showed an interest in the arts at a young age. Her parents recognized her love of drawing and painting and enrolled her at The Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in their hometown of Utica, New York. The School of Art offered Carrie the opportunity of instruction by many of New York State's finest artists, including John Dyer, Gladys Stohrer, and Edward Christiana . Following class, Carrie spent time studying the exhibits in the museum, where she became familiar with the works of earlier icons of Americana, such as Thomas Cole of the Hudson River School. At this time in her career, Carrie's art was sold under her maiden name, Carrie Hecox.

Following college and marriage, Carrie spent the next 20 years making her home and moving throughout the Midwest wherever the Air Force stationed her husband. During a four-year stay in North Dakota, Carrie gained additional experience working as a commercial artist in the local community.

After a move to Rapid City, South Dakota, Carrie worked as the Art Director for the local Officers Wives' club magazine. During their stay, her charcoal and graphite rendition of the Crazy Horse monument was chosen as a gift for Ruth Ziolkowski, wife of the famed artist and sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski.

In 1992 they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. During that time, Carrie worked sporadically at her art devoting most of her time to raising and home schooling her children.

Retirement from the Air Force in 2001 resulted in the family moving to Tulsa, Oklahoma where they currently reside. Carrie, a member of the WetCanvas Community and The Oklahoma Visual Artists Coalition, now works full-time at her art
